Erie Insurance - Insurance Notification Review from Rochester, New York

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Had a cancellation notice and spoke with a representative about making my payment. Was given the wrong information and my policy lapsed for 3 days. Was never notified. Got pulled over this morning and my vehicle was impounded. Called them and was told the person I spoke with had never noted that I called so I'm basically screwed. 2nd time they have not noted my account and I've been screwed over. 1st time my agency had called. Worst insurance ever. Cancelled my policy as of today

hmm...they sent you a bill for 800, and you decided (I assume?) on a payment plan of 200 now, and the rest when I can.....and think they should follow you around like your mama reminding you of your financial obligations to others ?

Had you been acting like a grownup in the first place and BEEN DRIVING WITH AT LEAST BASIC LIABILITY INSURANCE, none of this would have happened, huh ?

Yep.

Do not purchase home owners insurance with Erie

We have our car and homeowners insurance with Erie. We have been with them for over 26 years.

When a new agent took over they claimed they sent a bill for our homeowners insurance, a home inspection???, and a cancelation notice we got none of these, they also claimed they called to let us know our homeowners was up,for, renewal there was no message, nor phone call from them I have caller ID? My husband called to ask some questions about the homeowners plan they told us it had been canceled for 6 months, we still have a mortgage, we called our bank, they didn't receive a cancelation notice from them. They will not rewrite the policy, the $700 we paid a year will now cost over $3000. We are considered high risk.

I filed two claims in 26 years one in which a water tank blew when the blowout valve broke, they wrote on the report that it was due to mischief and vandalism. I pay my bills, take pride in my good credit, they ruined all of it because they lie.

They sent no bill, made no phone calls and I will pay for their negligence for years to come.

Interesting. Been with Erie 20 years (home/auto), and never ever got a bill from the agent.

They always come directly from Erie. At one time, I would take the payment to the agency, but for the last 5 years or so, I pay it directly to Erie online.

They are very dishonest.

DO NOT USE ERIE FOR INSURANCE

Cancelled policy in writing upon premium jump for renewal. They try to extort money from me for insurance I have not ordered/renewed and using collection agency to do that.

Wrote the letter to Mr. Terrence W. Cavanaugh (President/CEO) complaining about crooked Erie Insurance practices, but it was waste of time and money. Reply was, that I still owe them money.

Bunch of crooks. Do not get Erie Insurance for anything. By using scare tactics they are trying to generate business. They should sued.

I'm going to file complaint to State Department of Insurance and complained to BBB.

Erie Insurance sucks.

I had Erie Insurance for 24 years. I had auto and homeowners.

One auto accident 10 years ago. No traffic violations or speeding tickets in the last 7 years. Each year my premiums increase a little bit, no big deal. This time, I dropped one of two vehicles from my auto policy and my premium went up.

The explained I lost the multi car discount?! So, there must be less risk with one driver and one car on the road as compared to two? I don't think so. My annual premium was also over $900 for one 2012 Ford Escape.

I shopped it and got Geico -EXACT SAME COVERAGE- for $478. When I canceled my auto policy with Erie, I was told my Homeowner's would increase because I lost the multi-policy discount. I had also just moved to a new home and listed the house for sale. I told my agent that.

I also told them the $200 increase they wanted because of that was ridiculous. What happened next? I got a cancellation letter. It is extortion.

Either pay a ridiculous Auto premium and submit to their multi-policy discounts or they will cancel you. If you have them, shop elsewhere!

I had the same multi-vehicle issue with Nationwide. I contacted my state's insurance commission to file a complaint.

it seems the Insurance Companies lobbied the state senate to have a law created that allows the insurance company, in PA, to increase a policy by $100 whenever a multi-vehicle policy is changed to a single vehicle policy. So it's not just an Erie Insurance issue - it's the Insurance Lobbyists along with our politicians who are stealing from us.

The problem is that all the insurance companies work the same way and they all are crooks!!!

Ya bunch of crooks. What would you do if your house burnt down and it would have cost you 200,000+ to rebuild but you only pay a few hundred bucks for an insurance policy. What a bunch of crooks they are for providing people protection!!!

Yeah $200 A MONTH for your whole mortgage. So how much do they actually pay out for the life of the mortgage?

Do you enjoy working in the insurance industry?

Do you enjoy taking advantage of people because we are FORCED to buy your terrible coverage and then fight us the whole time and look for reasons not to pay for damages? Your a SLIMEBAG and you can go to ***.

Erie Insurance - Claim Review from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

I just recently discovered that erie paid $60, 000 to a man whom my dog bit, while he was tresspassing in my home. Other than my initial statement, they never even contacted me regarding the issue. I gave them countless info toward the fact that he was scamming them. This man was homeless, jobless & only decided to sue, after I wouldn't let him live in my home for free. They would hear nothing of it. They left me completly out of the loop, never contacting me to testify, give any info whatsoever, or even to make me aware they were settling thw claim, or had settled the claim months ago. For the last two years while this claim was open in paid three times my normal amount in ins, now that it settled for such a ridiculous amount, who knows. I may have to sell myhome. erie & vision ins berks county, pa. These people don't care about anyone

Auto accident in December, 2013

Auto accident occurred in December, 2013. Other driver was at fault and issued a citation for driving too fast for conditions. I had to pay the $500 deductible and was told I would be reimbursed. It is now June and I still have not received the $500. I haven't even heard from anyone at Erie in months. I tried calling their 800 # yesterday but was unable to be connected with anyone who could help. When my car was totaled in Dec, I had to wait 5 weeks for the check from Erie to purchase a car. Now I'm waiting again. I have been a customer of Erie for 27 years and I always thought I had a great insurance company. This is not my opinion now.

Erie Insurance Lies and Denies Claims

Recently, my landlord had Home Depot come and redo the siding on my house. The crew was non-english speaking (of course) and it seems that one of them hit the top of my SUV in the driveway with something metallic like a Ladder or scaffold pipe and made a bad dent in the roof frame. When we finally saw the damage with the paint chipped and where it was, we just stayed calm and started the claim process. The contractor Home Depot sent has Erie Insurance, who sent out an adjuster who said it was "obvious" that the damage was caused by something high up and metallic hitting the roof. Due to the size and shape of the scaffolding pipe used to make the temporary scaffolding on the house, he drew the conclusion that the damage could only be caused by the pipe. Soon after, Erie sent me a denial of my claim. When I called Erie Insurance in Raleigh, the claim officer said that I need a video or an eye witness of the incident for them to cover it. She then lied to me, mis-quoting and "spinning" what my 22 year old son said at the scene about a tree limb hitting his car, to point out that wood would not k=make a mark like that, she turned it around and said my son said it hit MY car. When I caught her in this lie, she glossed over it saying "we will not pay this clam", because the Mexican employees said "they didn't do it". It's bad enough that Home Depot employs contractors that use illegal workers, but the insurance they carry is sub-standard and do anything to weasel out of paying claims. Really guys??

Erie auto payments

I inquired about removing my son from my insurance policy, but was told I needed to show proof of Insurance for him that was 6 or 7 days prior to my next draft. I forked out $145 to get my son his own insurance cause it comes out cheaper since I was paying Erie $336/month and with me by myself and my son on his own i would pay $263. but different billing times so it helps. I signed what I needed to signed faxed everything back immediately. Come may 10th my account was drafted for the $336. when I called to inquire they told me because I removed my son 6 days is not enough billing time to stop the draft, in the past when this happen to me making a change I was told the needed 3 days prior now I am told they need 15 days prior if you make changes, so ok fine the didn't have enough billing time, I requested they credit back my account the overage of $198.00 considering I needed to pay my mortgage and feed my kids that week. All I was told so sorry for the inconvenience but they can't, they will credit my account so I will be paying $125 month instead of $146.00 how nice... but that didnt help me for that moment I needed my money back in my account cause they left me with nothing - I asked to mail me a check was told they can't do that either.....BUT if I cancel my policy to go to a difference insurance company then they can send me check for my pmt back.... I dont understand they can draft the money pretty quick but can't put a credit back makes no sense at all and I pay on my own I was told they charge $5 fee for Invoicing and oh yea they can't change my due date either since I explained to them that my rent and mortgage is due 1st two weeks can they change my due date , I was told that is not possible. So since I was not able to get anywhere with them about a credit I have decided to contact the PA Attorney General's office... wish me luck. Sadly I like dealing with this company because I never had issues with claims or my agent just when their drafting too much money out.

Erie insurance company is ***

we had insurance with these *** for 26 years, had 1 stinking claim which they refused to pay ( later discovered they broke the law ) then this past October we had a pipe burst in our house and they only gave us 10,200.00 for 25,00.00 worth of damage, we did main repairs already but many things still need fixing and they are refusing again, so what to do, sue their tailfeathers ad get them to pay which is what we have started doing, I pray I am able to pound them so hard into the ground they'll have to look up just to get out of their crumby offices, rotten ***

Had the same problem, now I hired a Public adjustor and complained to the Insurance Complaint commissioner and my adjustor now got them to redo my whole house because of so much damage not to mention my whole house is getting upgrades. Instead of a lawyer find a public adjustor.

Mary - Hopefully you're still around. I am in the same exact boat and working with a public adjustor.

I'm anxious to find out how your claim with Erie played out. Did Erie payout as the adjustor asked or did they continually pushback?

An adjustor seems to be the right way to go. Hope your home has been restored and also praying that mine gets back to normal as well.

Driver died after accident and they deny claim now

My father backed out of his garage and hit my car. He died suddenly, 3 days later(the weekend), and noe adjuster came to look at both vehicles. He said the paint from my car is on my father's truck at the same height as the damage was at on my car. He said it was "cut and dried and should be no problem". The claims department is refusing to honor his insurance because they could not interview him due to his death. They said I should file a claim with my insurance. If I do that, the accident is charged to me and I have to pay a deductible! My car was parked, why should I have to pay?
